GRATEFUL/PACT WITH THE DEVIL

Well, voting for the JIB Awards is underway, and I'm very grateful for all your support. JDaters Anonymous is still a dark horse candidate for best culture blog; my writer's ego would love to see it bumped up a few votes in its category so it was facing off against My Urban Kvetch in the eventual finals for some Esther-on-Esther competition (but that's not likely). Right now, I'm just grateful for all the attention. I'm leading in at least one category, and hovering near the top in several others. I'll resist the Sally Field-isms, in favor of a simple "thanks."

I'm so grateful that I even cast a goodwill vote for the ruthless blogger who's accused me of being married to Satan (even though any regular reader knows I'm single as they come). Although I applaud his subtle campaign methods, I think many of my regular readers understand that if I had entered into any kind of pact with the devil, the terms would include a record deal (if William Hung and J. Lo can have one, so can I), movies (if Renee Zellweger can squint on camera for millions, so can I), a book contract (I can share wisdom on how to detect that someone isn't really interested--Lord knows I've had enough experience in this arena) and red carpets (if people can pronounce 'Mariska Hargitay'*, maybe 'Esther Kustanowitz' isn't such a pipe dream)?

In summary: no pact with the devil yet. But I'm open.

May the best blogs win!

(PS: Vote here.)

*Did everyone understand that Mariska's mom was Jayne Mansfield? Yowza. Where have I been?

You married Satan and never told us? How long were you going to hide the big news from us? :P

Got your votes in for today. Too bad I don't have like 20 ISP's, or I could vote 20 times...

I voted for you (in every category!) and I DID know about Mariska Hargitay - didn't you see the Jayne Mansfield Story or whatever it was...it was on TV like 100 years ago, when I was a teenager?

What the hell are ya complain' for? I just voted and you're dominating the field. Rev up the acceptance speech, Sally.

Susan, she doesn't need you or the rest of us to like her. She seems to do a pretty good job of that herself.

Renee is Sami, also called Lapp. From Lappland. Its not a squint. Her eyes are like that naturally. You know. Diversity? People of different races? Multiculturalism? You New York Seinfelds are really into that, aren't you? Then again, perhaps Squint, or Slant, or Slope is more your style. Of course, what can one expect of a city whose favorite radio personality is a Seinfeld who talks of shiksas and queefs all day.

Hmm. Anonymous. I don't think we've met before.

Just so you know, there was no racial or ethnic slur intended in my poking at Renee; my big issue with her eyes is that in her earlier films, she used her eyes to express emotion, and was quite effective at it. I liked her then, but then she stopped using her eyes in her acting, and I thought that really detracted from her acting.

Also, I have a huge issue with the fact that they paid a reed-thin actress to gain 40 pounds for a role like Bridget Jones, when the role should have gone to one of the hundreds of talented actors in the (perfectly normal, but not in Hollywood) range of 150 pounds who cannot get work because of their "size." Do not get me started on this issue...

:)

OMG - I never realised that Mariska was Jayne Mansfield's daughter....I nearly plotzed...I have a whole bunch of friends who watch Law & Order: SVU and I gotta tell em this! How did you find this out??

I don't remember how I found out about Jayne being Mariska's mom. I believe it was on Entertainment Tonight or in EW...

But a Google search would probably reveal the info, too!
