TEVYE, YOU BIG QUEEN, YOU

Today's news brings good news for all the people who never liked Doc Ock playing Tevye on Broadway. I'm sure they'll all be relieved to know that Alfred Molina (that British, non-Jewish guy who didn't throw Indy the whip and ended up impaled in the opening sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark, but who lived again to torment Tobey Maguire in Spiderman 2) is himself being relieved of his Anatevkan post.

Enter a gay Jew whose last role was playing a woman in Hairspray.

That's right, Harvey Fierstein, baby.

Fierstein, who wrote the book for La Cage Aux Folles, which is now back on Broadway, and who was lampooned by Jon Lovitz on SNL ("I just wanna be loved, is that so wroooooonnnng?"), lost about 40 pounds for the role. And he's a four-time Tony winner, too.

Tevye is Jewish again. All hail Harvey!
