PURIM V. HALLOWEEN
Four years ago, I wrote a piece comparing Purim and Halloween for Gen-X webzine Generation J...
I always remember to resurrect this article for Purim, but I always forget 'round Halloween.
A taste of the candy in your plastic pumpkin that contains this article:
Recently, someone asked me whether I liked Purim better than Halloween. It seemed like such an odd question; the holidays had been so distinctly incomparable in my mind. But upon consideration, perhaps because my name is Esther, perhaps because of my Jewish background, I would have to say that Purim unequivocally kicks Halloween's rump. Of course, I am slightly biased: If Halloween featured a Queen Esther, I might be inclined to change my preference. But I doubt it.

Now this is what I love about MUK: posts where I don't have to feel guilty clicking on the links. I mean, it's educational right? I'm not wasting my employer's time, I'm improving myself!
After a quick Google tour I think Halloween costumes are a litte better than Purim ones. Gimme that fake blood every time. :)
You are very good at summing up Judaism and Judaic traditions in a non-boring way. Ever think about teaching?
C--Thanks! I try to provide you with MUK (I'm not sure about that abbreviation) that learns ya somethin' new, thereby providing an educational excuse for y'all who are passing your time with me.
Lyss--I'm not cut out for teaching, formally. But I do think about teaching a writing class every now and again, and the time I taught improv, I really enjoyed it.
